Chapter Twenty-Six

That night was one of the best of my life. The only other night that topped it was the first time Hunter and I slept together. It was the beginning of a great relationship back then, much of the way that our new start was.

We spent all our free time together. It wasn’t easy for him to get away, he had his club duties, and I had Scott to entertain. But the moments we were together were some of the most amazing experiences I’ve ever had. We went to the movies -to actually watch them- every weekend to see the new releases, he took me out riding on his motorcycle, and the rest of the time we spent in either his room or mine just getting to know one another again, and yes, there was plenty of mind-blowing sex to go around too.

But things started to slowly change. Not that he cared about me any less or treated me any differently, but life continued to go on around us, and it changed things. He had to go on runs with Firebird and Thunder, the cartel was mentioned a couple of times, that part, I know I wasn’t supposed to hear, but like a good obedient girlfriend, I pretended I didn’t hear what was being discussed on Hunter’s phone when he picked up. Then there were the nights that he’d disappear and not come back until early the next morning, sometimes he was gone three or four days at a time. He wasn’t on runs those times, I can tell you that, because either he borrowed someone’s motorcycle or he was still here on the property, his bike was here and so was Jared’s truck. It made me start to doubt our relationship, and Jared took advantage of the fact that I started to be alone more often, and started spending more time with me. He became my movie partner, we went sightseeing together, and he accompanied me when I went to the store to buy food for the club. The entire time, he continued to drill into my head to stay away from Hunter and that he was out doing improper things with other women. While I didn’t believe him, he did plant some seeds of doubt in my mind that slowly started to eat away at me.

I was too busy juggling keeping Jared and the others in the dark, and Scott to worry about what Hunter was off doing. Scott questioned me about what happened to me that night in the club, I lied and told him there was a fight that broke out, and I had to leave in a hurry. I convinced him I didn’t have my phone on me that night. I repeated it until I said it so much, I started to believe it, and after that, he dropped the subject.

Things continued to become more and more complicated, and it was harder to make time for the many facets of my relationship and the lies I had to tell to keep everyone else in the dark.
